Combine and conquer.  This bird outing includes birding
on the eastern, southwest, and north sides of our territory
looking for our endemic bird species and Caribbean /
Antillean specialties.  This is the opportunity to see the
Elfin-woods Warbler, Nightjar, and Amazon.

DAY 1

  • 11:30 AM Pick-up starts in Condado or Isla Verde hotels
    (Sundays), drive to Luquillo for lunch at bakery.
  • We will start birding in the edge of El Yunque National Forest,
    in the countryside of Luquillo looking for our first endemic bird
    species (Woodpecker, Lizard Cuckoo, Oriole) then we go
    to El Yunque for our first try for the Puerto Rican Amazon.
  • Depending on the season, we go for dinner and then we go for  
    the little Owl, or vice versa and then go for dinner.
  • On private groups, if you have been traveling for many hours
    and prefer to go for the Owl the next night, we can skip the first
    night and go directly to the hotel or restaurant.

DAY 2

  • Breakfast at local bakery followed by a full-day bird outing with
    a morning trip to El Yunque National Forest PR191 La Mina
    North Recreational Corridor while we keep looking for more  
    endemics:  Tody, Spindalis, Bullfinch, our first try for the
    Elfin-woods Warbler, Tanager, Emerald, Green Mango,
    plus a second try for our Amazon..
  • Picnic style lunch on our way to Fajardo & Ceiba (Yellow-
    shouldered Blackbird, Flycatcher), plus Green-throated
    Carib, Antillean Crested Hummingbird, Caribbean Elaenia.
  • Dinner.

DAY 3

  • Check-out, drive to the southwest with a stop for the Plain
    Pigeon, followed by Jobanes for a second chance for the
    Green-throated Carib and the Antillean Crested Hummingbird
    and a stop por lunch on our way to Laguna Cartagena. (West
    Indian Whistling Duck, White-cheeked Pintail, Purple
    Gallinule, Yellow Crake--rare).
  • Afternoon in La Parguera (Yellow-shouldered Blackbird,
    Adelaide´s Warbler, Emerald, Mango), plus Venezuelan
    Trourpial, and Caribbean Elaenia.  Night outing for PR
    Nightjar and seasonal Antillean Nightjar and then dinner.

DAY 4

  • After breakfast we drive to Maricao in for more endemics (Vireo, Green Mango, Tanager,
    Elfin-woods Warbler, Oriole, Woodpecker, Euphonia), plus the Lesser Antillean Pewee.
    A third wild population of Puerto Rican Amazon is now in Maricao.  Depending on how
    cooperative birds are today, we will return earlier to the hotel and dinner at the community.

DAY 5

  • Check-out. After breakfast we drive to the Western region with a stop in Cabo Rojo or
    Mayagüez and Quebradillas (Tropic Birds, seasonal)  in Quebradillas.
  • Drop-off in San Juan on or before 2:00 PM.
