Hilda Morales - Owner
People ask us which birding site we prefer.  It is hard to answer, as we like both El Yunque National Forest and the
mountains in the western region.  While in El Yunque you stay in the forest during the whole day and you travel less,
Maricao allows you to see the endemics spending more time on the road.  The solution?  We have listened and
improved the Maricao experience adding more time in the mountains.

Combine with Lajas / Cabo Rojo and save with our
Western Loop Birding Trip.
A one hour drive takes us to the small
mountainous town of Maricao, home of
endemic species, such as the
Elfin-woods Warbler and Puerto Rican
Tanager.  This is basically a birding road
trip as there are no trails in Maricao,
which makes it an excellent option for
slow mobility birders.

What to expect?   Possible endemics
will be Elfin-Woods Warbler, Tody,
Tanager, Spindalis, Adelaide´s Warbler,
Emerald, Bullfinch, Green Mango, Lizard
Cuckoo, Vireo, Oriole, Woodpecker,
Flycatcher; plus
near endemics, such
as:  Lesser Antillean Pewee, Loggerhead
Kingbird, and Antillean Euphonia.

Rare bird species:  Broad-winged and
Sharp-shinned Hawks.  As per the last
census, only 17 Sharp-shinned Hawks
survived after hurricane María.

Other  species?  Pearly-eyed Thrasher,
Bananaquit, Antillean Mango, Venezuelan
Troupial, migratory warblers.

The population of hummingbirds in the eastern region was impacted with
hurricanes Irma and María.  In this birding trip, we will be looking for three
of the six species that nest in Puerto Rico.

Hi Hilda,

I just wanted to thank you and
Sergio for the great birding
tours while I was in Puerto
Rico. Sergio really did and
outstanding job and went to
great lengths to help me see
as many birds as possible. He
is a very nice person and I
can't say enough to thank him
for his efforts. Both days were
very enjoyable and I hope to
return to Puerto Rico for more
birding soon!
