This version of El Yunque Nights is offered in
the parking of El Portal de El Yunque since the
trail is not adapted for wheelchairs.

You will have the opportunity to explore the
surroundings with a Certified Tour Guide. The
area was part of a coffee plantation (Hacienda
La Catalina).  In 1945 La Catalina Nursery was
created.  The nursery grew mostly exotic tree
species that were added to all the reforestation
efforts in the forest and the entire island.

The capacity of the accessible van is for two
wheelchairs and six seats. Please contact us for
quote as the price will vary depending on hotel
location and the number of participants.

We did this tour while on a Royal Caribbean
cruise. This was the BEST excursion I have
ever done. Glad you are up and running again!

April 11, 2023  ·

Hilda is amazing!!! She was able to accommodate a tour for my family of 12 people at the last minute. She arranged a guide and transportation. My whole family
agreed that the night time walk through the El Yunque rain forest was the highlight of our trip. We loved seeing the frogs, lightning bugs, snails and hearing the
laughing owl. This was a fantastic trip. I highly recommend it to anyone.
.
Due to the number of people visiting El Yunque National Forest during the Holy Week/Weekend (Wednesday through Sunday, including
Good Friday and Easter) and the
month of July, we DO NOT OFFER tours to El Yunque other than the Night Hike and/or
Ancestral Areyto.  Access to the Forest is limited and we cannot guarantee the quality during those days.
For European Nations,
please
contact us only via
regular phone or email.
When you book directly with us, 100% of your money is spent locally, not abroad.

Ruta Taína @ El Yunque National Forest
(Nocturnal Sounds Forest Bath)
If you are short of time or you are
not part of a larger group, this
could be your best option to see El
Yunque when the crowds are gone
!

The trail at El Portal is a short loop
trail of 0.3 miles within the land of
an old coffee plantation, Hacienda
La Catalina. This are is an excellent
example of  Secondary Forest.

We will walk in the dark in search
of critters and the glow-in-the-dark
cocubá as our Ancestors did.
Depending on the season, you will
see endemic species coexsiting
with other (coffee, breadfruit,
plantain, and papaya trees) . Our
target species are newborn coquis,
glow-in-the-dark mushrooms,
lizards, critters, and the cocubá.

If you are looking for owl, you
should book our
Night Owling
as it is done in a different area.
Imagine yourself growing over
1,400´ above sea level,
with
exposed buttress roots helping
you to stabilize on unstable soils
near river banks and steep cliff
edges? The shallowness of the
soil makes you the dominant
species at this height of the
Forest.  But you are not alone,
other trees, plants, and shrubs
have adapted, including your two
friends: the old trees with red
crooked bark and those tall tress
with a strong distinctive fragrance.

This is home for three important
species growing at El Yunque:
Sierra Palm (Prestoea montana),
Tabonuco (Dacryodes excelsa),
and Palo colorado (Cyrilla
racemiflora).

We will be looking at everything:
from small flowerless briophytes,
elegant giant tree ferns, diminute
newborn coquis, glow-in-the-dark
mushrooms, bats, owls, and any
other critter showing up.
