- You will meet the guide at El Yunque 15 minutes
before this nature walk starts (7:00 AM).
- The walk starts in Luquillo at Angelito Trail, a
low impact to moderate trail that ends at Poza
Las Mujeres.
- You will learn about the fauna and flora of the
rain forest and how species survived after
hurricanes Irma and María.
- Then, you will walk to Puente Roto and learn
the importance of water as a resource,
specially for shrimps and fishes.
- You should be able to walk and stand for
approximately 3.5 hours.
- Swimming or river crossing is not allowed.
- Non-smokers only.
How these species survived at the
Forest after hurricanes?
Take a breath, observe, immerse, and
reconnect with the Healing Forest. This
option is for the explorer at heart as we focus
on the natural history of El Yunque.
Located in la Sierra de Luquillo and with over
29,000 acres of land, El Yunque is one of the
most important places in Puerto Rico due to
its biological diversity.
- Birds: 111 species,16 of 18 of
our endemic birds
- Reptiles: 11 lizards, 3 geckos,
- Amphibians: 13 endemic frogs,
plus 1 introduced species
- Fish: 6 native, plus 1 introduced
species
- Plants: more than 1,000 species
- Trees: of 225 native species; 60
are endemic and 8 are endemic to
Luquillo Mountains.
- Ferns: Over 150 species
- Flora: 636 native species,
including 50 native orchids species
