| In 2008 we trained tour guides for the Municipality of Mayagüez through the Puerto Rican Association of Interpretation and Education (APIE). During the practicum, the students offered a variety of tours including the historic walk of Mayagüez (script written by Hilda Morales). Part of the staff from different municipal offices walked with us. Also, as a special guest, we invited doña Carmen Martell, an experienced traveler who shared her knowledge and travel anecdotes. |

western region. Mayagüez 101 consists of a series of thematic walks to select
from. The historic walk takes you through time and history. You will witness the
place where the town was founded, where the children of the slaves were baptized
and given their freedom. This is the basic tour if you are going to stay several days
in the city and want to learn what and where to go. The urban walk focus on art
and music while the photo walk combines history and photography. If you want to
learn about Mayagüez local cuisine, the culinary walk is for you.
