It was the XVI century. The Spaniards arrived in 1493, returned around 1508, founded the first town, San Juan in 1521. By
1573 they expanded their domain to San Germán ) and later, 1579, to Coamo. Everything was done against the will of the ethic
groups already living across the island of Borikén, the Taínos.
During the next centuries, the territory of San Germán was divided as sixteen new towns were founded in the western region.
