Signature tour created by Hilda Morales, 2017 - Based on the true story of
Felipe, a slave who lived in the mountains until he escaped.
He was tall, strong, and worked in
the sugarcane fields and coffee
plantations since he was a boy.
Suddenly, he escaped.

FELIPE, THE RUNAWAY SLAVE
They traveled naked, only with their
memories of their deep and rich
culture, without understanding why
they had to travel a long way to
another continent and be treated
like animals.  They influenced our
culture with their music, dance,
diet, art,  literature, and religion.
Travel with us through time and
space while we visit museums,
communities, plantations while
exploring our afropuertorrican roots.
People gathered on the roads waiting for the funeral car carrying with the body of don
Juan Mari Bras on his way to the cemetery.

Los inmigrantes:  the rise and fall
of the coffee, sugar, and tobacco
plantations.

On 10 August 1815, King Ferdinand
VII of Spain the Royal Decree of
Graces (Real Cédula de Gracias)
was approved by King Ferdinand VII
of Spain granting Puerto Rico and
Cuba the right to have commercial
ties with other countries in good
standing with Spain. The new
settlers were granted free land and
incentives for investing in the land.

As immigrants arrived, they slowly
developed sugarcane, coffee, and
tobacco plantations, based on the
use of slave labor arriving mainly
from different parts of Africa.

This storytelling tour narrates the
story of the people who traveled
from Europe to the promised land
and met Felipe, the runaway slave.

Signature tour created by Hilda Morales, 2017 - Based on the true story of
Felipe and the family of the landlord where he lived.
.
In 1846 he was walking the streets
of the Old San Juan while trying to
sell parts of a ship destroyed in
Cuba by the impact of a possible
category five hurricane.

This is the story of a retired captain
who settled in the west region
where he met Felipe.  Join us and
learn who was this captain and
why he is related to Felipe, the
runaway slave.  We will visit Museo
del Mar and will take a boat ride at
the San Juan Bay.

ANCESTRAL AREYTOS
.
In this unique tour, we will explore the
different funeral rituals and traditions.
During our visit to the Museo de
Historia, Antropología y Arte from the
University of Puerto Rico, we will learn
three different traditions: from the
Ostionones archaeological site in
Luquillo; El Velorio (painting by
Francisco Oller y Cestero), to Egypt´s
funeral art.

Our second stop will be at María
Magdalena de Pazzi Cemetery at the
Old San Juan.

Taíno, Mayombe, Palo Mayombe,
Yoruba, Espiritismo...

As local priests tried to impose a
new religion, the slaves, changed
the names of their ..... and referred
to them using the name of catholic
saints.  But what about the Taínos?

Some people believe that the real
religion of Puerto Rico is espiritsmo
(spiritualism).  At the end of the tour
we will ask you,
What do you think?
DEFENSE SYSTEM III:  ROOSEVELT ROADS
.
.
Jesús T. Piñero, Luis Muñoz Marín
and Doña Felisa Gautier:  what do
they have in common?

Piñero was the first Governor of our
territory, appointed by the US while
Muñoz Marín was the first Governor
elected by the Puerto Rican people
and doña Felisa was the first woman
elected as Mayor of San Juan.  We
will be visit three museums and
learn more about these politicians
and their role in Puerto Rican history.
Lunch at a
local fonda.
What do they have in common?  An
economist, a politician, a business
person, a single mother, a university
student, an artist, a musician, a
teacher, and a scientist?

Each one could have a different
perspective of the outcome on our
economy.  If you are interested in
learning who and why, plus who are
responsible for the debt, join us.

Be prepared, this could be a very
long day.
A visit to Ceiba is not complete until
you visit the old naval station.  This
tour includes a sightseeing of the site,
as we have called it:
Naval Heritage at
Roosevelt Roads, the tour.

This tour combines Nature, ecology,
culture, history, archeology, and
ancestral wisdom. We invite you to
discover the different ecosystems at
the old naval station in Roosevelt
Roads while admiring the landscape
of this singular spot.
